No 688 1733 William Woods USA Rose Two Pence

No 688 1733 William Woods USA Rose Two Pence Image

In 1722 George I issued
William Wood a patent to produce "Hibernia" copper coins for Ireland and the
"Rosa America" series for the American Colonies. This two penny is a
reproduction of the final coin that Woods issued for North
America, a 2-pence coin issued in 1733. The quality of the "bath" metal used in these
coins was not of the best, although it resulted in good profits for the
manufacturer, and the Woods coins were unpopular in Ireland. However, they
apparently were in circulation in the American Colonies, as
Colonial Williamsburg has excavated a number of the William Woods coins.
