Another unusual artefact. We took this piece to an engineer who commented that ‘I wouldn’t like to be given the task of making that, even with the equipment at my disposal’.
It is only small, measuring about one quarter of an inch, is made of bronze and was probably used to weigh coins. It has six sides, each with four punched indentations, similar to a domino. Maybe, these four indentations, meant four pence? although the weight of the piece doesn’t seem right.
