This is a reprouction of a gun money crown issued during the Williamite War in Ireland 1689-1691.
This type was created by melting down destroyed or damaged cannon guns Some of the coins had also a brass plug. Halfcrowns and Crowns were issued in 1690 with the same dies as other gun money coins.
The new crown pieces showed the king on horseback on the obverse, in armour, with an upright drawn sword in his left hand. On the reverse were four crowned shields, cross wise, in the centre a crown with "CHRISTO, VICTORE, TRIVMPHO" and the date 1690.
