This is a reproduction of a Spanish 8 Reales coin minted in Mexico city in 1742. The original was made of very fine silver approx. 91.7% pure. It was minted by Phillip V who reigned from 1700-1746.
The obverse shows a crowned shield with the legend "PHILIP V.D.G.HISPAN.ET.IND.REX.
The reverse shows 2 pillars representing the "Pillars of Hercules"
This coin was likely to have been the first global currency and weighs 21.1 grams.
