No 474 Charles II Gold Guinea reduced price

No 474 Charles II Gold Guinea reduced price Image

This is a lovely coin. This is a reproduction of the first machine-struck gold coin. The guinea of 1663 was the first ever.

The term ‘guinea’ was not an official name. Much of the gold for the minting of these coins came from Guinea in Africa. The African Company were given permission to place their symbol, an elephant, on the coins and the term ‘guinea’ stuck.

Our example appears to have Obverse type 3 and Reverse type 2 and is in Fine condition.

These coins are now sprayed with a special gold paint as the price of gold plating has gone sky high in 2025 hence the reduced price.
