Charles the Bold Double Groot
Made from a modern die cut by a master craftsman to represent this type and hand struck from pewter.
The Double Groot or Groat of Charles the Bold, struck at the mint of Bruges. The obverse features the quartered arms of the House of Valois-Burgundy, as used between 1419 and 1482. This dynasty ruled the Duchy of Burgundy from the the late fourteenth to the late fifteenth century. Charles I, nicknamed "The Bold" was Duke of Burgundy from 1467 to his death in 1477. The reverse shows a long cross with decorated shoulders and a lis at the centre. In the angles are a pair of lis and a pair of rampant lions.
