No 685 - Roman Gold Aureus of Antoninus Pius :- This coin used the same die as our No 679. This is a commemorative coin struck by Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus after the death of Antoninus Pius. The obverse shows a bare head of the emperor facing right. The obverse inscription reads “DIVVS ANTONINVS” The reverse reads “CONSECRATIO” and shows a funeral pyre surmounted by Antoninus in a quadriga. It is Sear 1299.
