No 657: Roman gold Aureus of  Pulpienus:  This coin is exactly the same as No 628

except that this is plated with gold to represent the aureus which was minted using the

same dies. 

It is on a thicker flan than the original coin. This coin shows the emperor’s head facing

right with the legend ‘IMP C M CLOD PVPIENVS AVG’

The reverse shows Pax seated left with the legend ‘PAX PVBLICA’.
