No 624  - Roman Denarius of Pertinax

This reproduction has been produced with a thicker flan than the original.

This is a copy of a very rare denarius by Pertinax who ruled for a short period in AD 193. The obverse reads ‘IMP CAES P HELV PERTIN AVG’ and shows a laureate head of Pertinax facing right.  

The reverse reads ‘PROVID DEOR COS 11 and shows Providentia standing left, holding up right hand to star, left hand on breast. It is RIC Vol IV, 11a.
