No 619  - Saxon Silver Sceat

This coin belongs to a type known as ‘Saroaldo’ which dates to about AD 710. Mint and moneyer is unknown. 

The obverse reads ‘SAROALDO’ and shows a head facing right whilst the   obverse contains the letters FIT/RV within a box. 

The Aston Rowant hoard contained two examples of this coin. This puts the date of about 710 AD on this coin.
